Community Shelter Board has opened a new center with multiple shelter programs – Van Buren Center – to address the growing numbers of men, women and families experiencing homelessness. The new building accommodates up to 356 single adults and 64 families. Operating costs have steadily risen throughout the phased opening of this new facility over the past year.

We are looking for groups with the financial means to support the meal program. Community Shelter Board fully funds Freedom a la Cart to staff and operate the commercial kitchen for the evening meal seven days a week. With this partnership, Freedom has expanded its workforce development program to employ survivors of human trafficking. They handle meal planning and food preparation, but we rely heavily on volunteers to ensure the evening meal service runs smoothly. Partnering with the Mid-Ohio Foodbank, we have tremendous buying power for food, but the cost to feed everyone is substantial.
We would like to have groups like yours commit to providing multiple meals throughout the year by making an investment to offset this cost. There are two options:
- Provide a meal with a $500 donation per meal. CSB will recruit individual volunteers to serve the meal.
- Provide and serve a meal with a $500 donation per meal and send up to 20 volunteers per meal. CSB will recruit additional volunteers if needed.
Your group can create a customized experience that best meets your goals.
You can also make a gift online to provide a meal.
