Officers were also named for one year terms of office for the Board of Trustees. Stephen A. Rish, Nationwide, was re-elected as Chair; Dorothy M. Horvath, National City Bank, and William M. Bennett, Bank One, NA, were electeded as Vice Chairs; Timothy T. Miller, Crane Plastics Company, was elected as Secretary; and William Wright, Deloitte & Touche, was re-elected as Treasurer.
Also at its March 22nd meeting, the Board of Trustees voted to recognize and appreciate its partners in the Winter Overflow Center project. The Center, which operated from February 1 to March 20, assured that no homeless man was turned away from shelter during winter months. Lutheran Social Services, the American Red Cross of Greater Columbus, the City of Columbus, Health Care for Homeless Veterans, Carolyn Moehring, and the YMCA all contributed to the operations of the Winter Overflow Center.
"The partners operated the Winter Overflow Center with skill and effectiveness to meet the winter demand for shelter," said Barbara Poppe, executive director of the Community Shelter Board.
The Community Shelter Board, established in 1986, is a non-profit intermediary organization which coordinates community based efforts, fosters collaboration, and funds services to assist families and individuals in Central Ohio to resolve their housing crisis. The Community Shelter Board allocates $6.0 million annually to support programs at 13 agencies. Last year, these programs served more than 11,000 individuals. The Community Shelter Board is funded by the City of Columbus, the Franklin County Board of Commissioners, the United Way of Franklin County, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Sate of Ohio, and other public and private donors.
