MEDIA ADVISORY

PUBLIC INVITED TO COMMENT ON
PROPOSED STANDARDS FOR HOUSING HOMELESS

WHAT: The Community Shelter Board seeks public input on its draft recommendations that will set standards for shelters and housing for the homeless. A public discussion will be held to make sure the proposed policies meet the needs of the entire community.

WHERE: Columbus Convention Center, 400 North High Street, Columbus.

WHEN: Wednesday, January 12, 2000
5:30 to 8: 30 p.m.

WHY: Last fall, the Community Shelter Board created a Community Advisory Committee charged with drafting shelter certification standards and "good neighbor" policies. The committee was a step in implementing Rebuilding Lives – an initiative to provide homeless men with permanent rental housing linked with job training and other services.

Good neighbor agreements between housing developers and neighborhoods address issues such as property maintenance and safety. Shelter certification standards are intended to improve the quality and accountability of homeless service programs.

The Community Shelter Board seeks the input of the entire community-at-large on these policies. Public comment on these policies is vital to develop a community solution to the housing crisis affecting homeless men in Columbus.
