Community Shelter Board Gains New Board Members

The Community Shelter Board recently welcomed two new members to the Board of Trustees. Board chair, Steve Rish welcomed Joyce Link and Hal Keller as new board members. He also congratulated the new officers: Dorothy Horvath of National City as Chair, Vice Chair Timothy Miller of Crane Plastics, Secretary Floyd Jones of The Columbus Dispatch and Treasurer William Wright, a retired partner from Deloitte and Touche.

Joyce Link is a partner in the law firm of Bricker and Eckler, practicing in general business and commercial litigation. She specializes in the areas of contract, insurance, shareholder disputes, real estate, higher education and employment discrimination. Ms. Link has represented numerous national and domestic insurers relative to life insurance claims, handled multi-million dollar shareholder actions, lease disputes and fraud cases. In 1996, she was appointed special counsel to Central State University by the Attorney General. Ms. Link is a former assistant attorney general for the State of Ohio and a former City Attorney for the City of Columbus. She is a member of the Columbus, Ohio, American and National Bar Associations, Women Lawyers of Franklin County and the Franklin Park Conservatory. She is the former Chair of both the Park Foundation for Community Health Improvement and First Church of God, Interfaith Hospitality Network Homeless Families Project. Ms. Link is a graduate of Washington University and The Ohio State University College of Law and is a resident of the near east side.

Hal Keller has been with Ohio Capital Corporation for Housing (OCCH) since its inception, first as Director of Development and as President since 1993. OCCH is an independent, non-profit corporation created by the Ohio Housing Finance Agency in 1989. Mr. Keller oversees all corporate policy and fiscal affairs, including securing corporate investors for Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) equity funds. He also coordinates efforts to develop housing projects receiving equity investment from the Ohio Equity Funds. To date, OCCH has raised more than $370 million in corporate equity for LIHTC projects and has completed more than 150 transactions with sponsors. OCCH provides services on a range of affordable housing issues to state and local governments, financial institutions, public housing authorities and non-profit and for-profit developers. Mr. Keller has been involved in affordable housing for over 20 years as a consultant to state and local government, administrator of state and local housing programs, neighborhood organizer and tenant advocate. Mr. Keller is a graduate of Case Western Reserve University and he has Master of Arts degrees in both Public Administration and Social Work from The Ohio State University. He is a resident of Worthington.

The Community Shelter Board, established in 1986, is a non-profit intermediary organization that coordinates community based efforts, fosters collaboration, and funds services to assist families and individuals in Central Ohio to resolve their housing crisis. The Community Shelter Board allocates more than $6.0 million annually to support programs at 15 agencies. Last year, these programs served more than 11,000 individuals. The Community Shelter Board is funded by the City of Columbus, the Franklin County Board of Commissioners, the United Way of Central Ohio, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the State of Ohio, and other public and private donors.
